August 17, 2020
On Monday, federal officials and the New York City Police Department announced charges for two suspects connected to the unsolved murder of Jam Master Jay, a member of Run DMC.
2 longtime suspects have been indicted for the execution-style murder of Jam Master Jay in his Queens studio back in 2002. His murder has remained a cold case for almost 18 years, with few witnesses coming forth to explain why the hip-hop legend was killed.
The alleged suspects indicted are Ronald Washington (56) who was already incarcerated for robbery, while Karl Jordan (36) was taken into custody by ATF and members of the NYPD on Sunday, according to NBC, NYC. Chief Rodney Harrison and the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York will announce the charges at a scheduled press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Jay (actual name: Jason Mizell) grew up in Queens, NY, before joining Joseph (Run) Simmons and Daryl (DMC) McDaniels to form the hip-hop trio, Run-DMC. DMC became a major success with their platinum-selling record with “Raising Hell” in 1985 and their crossover hit “Walk This Way” with Aerosmith.
