Happy Birthday Barbie! The doll turns 61-years old on Monday (March 9.) The Barbie brand’s classic blonde Barbie has evolved and redesigned herself into many new diverse versions. This year, Barbie celebrates her 61st birthday with the unveiling of her new, @BarbieStyle for MAC Maker’s limited-edition lipstick.

The first product to be made available is the Barbie Style MAC lipstick in a universal cool-toned, bubblegum-pink with a matte finish. The lipstick is housed in a shiny gold tone case with Barbie’s pink and gold duo packaging.

The original Barbie Doll made her first debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York on March 9, 1959. American businesswoman Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration. The first Barbie wore a black and white swimsuit with blonde or brunette hair and cost $3. Years later, Barbie will have acquired over 200 inspirational careers, a boyfriend named Ken, and an upscale life including countless mansions, cars, horses, planes and more.

Barbie has served as the figurehead and the most profitable line of a brand of Mattel dolls and accessories, generating millions of dollars with over a billion dolls sold. Barbie remains a staple in the toy fashion doll market and considered a cultural icon.

For now, the lipstick is the only product available from the collection, but we hope there’s more to come. The Barbie x MAC limited-edition lipstick retails for $20 exclusively at maccosmetics.com.
