The police body cam video from Karen Huger’s DUI case in Maryland has been released after the The Real Housewives of Potomac star's guilty verdict.
The footage, acquired by local news outlets, such as FOX 5 DC, depicted police questioning the 61-year-old reality TV star about the March incident while her husband, Ray Huger, attempted to locate her documents.
Karen seems highly intoxicated, repeatedly requesting a tissue from the officer and saying, "this won't be good for my marriage." She also inquires if the officer knows her husband, along with making other unclear statements due to her slurred speech and the video's poor audio quality.
The officer tries to help Karen Huger exit the patrol car when she stumbles and states "I'm lit." The officer states "You are lit, that's why you are here."
An officer was observed asking Huger, “Do you recall the accident?” After a long pause, she answered, “Yes.” He followed up with, "What happened?" and she responded, “Nothing really.”
Ray, 78, could then be heard saying, “Somebody ran you off the road,” to which she responded, “They did.” Officers then asked, “Do you remember that vehicle at all?” Huger responded, “No.”
The body cam footage also shared a glimpse at her wrecked light-colored Maserati, which had a huge dent on the driver’s side of the engine. The car’s headlight on the driver’s side also appeared to have been crushed.
On March 19, while driving her 2017 Maserati in Potomac, Huger hit a median and a crosswalk sign at an intersection, then collided with a parking sign before a crashing halt just off the road.
On Wednesday, Dec. 18, Huger was convicted in court on charges that included DUI and DWI, negligently operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner that endangered property, life, and individuals, as well as recklessly driving a vehicle with wanton and willful disregard for the safety of people and property.
Additional charges involved not controlling vehicle speed on the highway to prevent a collision, driving a vehicle at an unreasonable and imprudent speed on the highway, operating a vehicle on the highway with a suspended registration, and failing to notify the administration of a change of address within 30 days.
Huger avoided a conviction for reckless driving during her trial in Montgomery County on Wednesday, but she now risks up to 2 years in prison when the judge sentences her on January 29.
