Caroline Ghosn reveals 'Temple of Together' lighting up Burning Man Festival in all the right ways.
New York-based artist Caroline Ghosn and lead architect Maisa Sader’s “The Temple of Together” will be revealed at this year’s Burning Man festival at Black Rock City, Nevada from August 25 - September 2, 2024.
The temple structure measures 94 feet in diameter and towers above festival goers at 70 feet high. The center chamber of the temple offers communal seating for up to 180 people with a pillar of light altar, which extends into a spire of light to sky
The design features a walkthrough arch way of two hands coming together in prayer. Over 1000 volunteers came together to build 'Temple of Together' at a pre-build space in Oakland over the course of five months before it will be moved to Black Rock City.
Ghosn’s team was committed to building with sustainable materials that could be burned at the end of the festival with the guiding principle “leave it better than we found it”.
Most of the structure's lumber is locally sourced from trees damaged in storms. The temple lighting and camp kitchen build are powered by 100% solar energy that will serve over 5,000 locally sourced and organic meals.
The experience doesn’t stop there. The 'Temple of Together' also offers multi-sensory support and accessible design for participants including audio descriptions and 3D maquettes that can be experienced through touch. The temple also offers on-site volunteer ‘Guardians’ who will help you out if you happen to be trippin too hard or having an 'experience' that needs guiding.
If you are Burning Man festival definitely check it out from August 25 – September 2, 2024.
