The news broke on Tuesday (August 11) that Former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has selected Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate after weeks of speculation.
The California Senator was one of the front runners for the job for the upcoming Presidential election and now celebs are flocking to social media to show showing their support, in honor of the historic nomination.
Whoopi Goldberg tweeted: "Sen.KamalaHarris this is a great moment. Let’s take care of her and make sure we are supportive of her because this is a no nonsense race and she is ready. Go Kamala!!
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren tweeted shortly after the announcement "@KamalaHarris will be a great partner to @JoeBiden in making our government a powerful force for good in the fight for social, racial, and economic justice."
Former U.S. President Barack Obama released a statement on Twitter "I’ve known Senator @KamalaHarris for a long time. She is more than prepared for the job. She’s spent her career defending our Constitution and fighting for folks who need a fair shake. This is a good day for our country. Now let’s go win this thing."
Singer and songwriter, John Legend also chimed in with Very happy for our friend and Senator and future Vice-President, @KamalaHarris, and very much looking forward to voting for the Biden-Harris ticket to begin the difficult work of recovering from this nightmare presidency and building an even better future.
Other stars such as Cher, Sharon Stone, Rob Reiner and more have also shared their support on social media.
Harris is the second African American (after Barack Obama) to be an election candidate for president or vice president. If she and Biden win, she would also be the first Asian American and the first Black woman in American history to be Vice President.
