Jeff Baena, a film screenwriter and director, has passed away at the age of 47 by suicide. The news was initially reported by TMZ. According to the outlet, Baena was found dead by an assistant at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday at a Los Angeles-area home.
Baena is best known for the 2014 comedy "Life After Beth," starring Plaza, and for co-writing the 2004 film "I Heart Huckabees," as mentioned on his IMDB page. More recently, he wrote and directed the 2016 film "Joshy," an indie dark comedy that deals with the topic of suicide.
Baena and Aubrey Plaza were in a relationship for almost ten years before getting married in 2020. They announced their marriage in 2021.
According to Deadline, Baena is survived by his partner Plaza, his mother Barbara Stern, his stepfather Roger Stern, his father Scott Baena, his stepmother Michele Baena, his brother Brad Baena, and his stepsiblings Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman.
