Bad Seeds frontman Nick Cave has confirmed that his eldest son, Jethro Lazenby, has passed away at the age of 31.
In a brief statement to NME, Cave wrote: “With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away. We would be grateful for family privacy at this time.”
Jethro’s mother is Beau Lazenby. Jethro grew up in Australia before moving to the to the UK to became a fashion model for Balenciaga and Versace.
The news follows Jethro being released from jail just 2 days before his death in Australia. The musician and model was release on bail for unlawful assault after striking his mother in March. Jethro’s lawyer, Sean Ghattas, said Lazenby was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Cave has now endured the loss of two of his four sons, after his son Arthur (15) fell to his death from a cliff near Brighton. In a statement announcing his death, they described him as a “beautiful, happy, loving boy.”
The singer has two other sons, Luke, 30, from his first marriage to Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro, and Earl, 21, from his marriage to Susie Bick, who he married in 1991.
Cave and his wife, Susie, relocated from Brighton to Los Angeles in the wake of Arthur's death, before returning to England.
In response , the singer spoke of his Bad Seeds track Heart That Kills You, which he said was 'clearly written' while he was grieving for Arthur.
