John Legend Sings Songs from New Album 'Better Love' to Virtual Audience via Wave
Thursday, June 25, 2020
John Legend is giving his fans some love while in self isolation while Covid-19 cases are on an upward trend. Legend will perform songs from his latest album "Bigger Love" to his first-ever immersive virtual concert on Thursday (June 25) hosted by entertainment technology company, Wave and PEOPLE magazine.
Legend will perform for fans as a digital avatar in various virtual worlds. The concert is free and will be available to stream on YouTube and Twitter. Fans will also have the option to socialize and interact with John Legend and are welcome to join the virtual dance floor. There is also a paid option to send gifts during the digital concert. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the FREEAMERICA campaign, founded by John, which focuses on transforming the criminal justice system.
According to a report by VentureBeat back in April, Wave CEO Adam Arrigo said in a statement that we are now living in a digital avatar culture, and that his company’s proprietary technology and core gaming capabilities enable it to go beyond the traditional live streaming concerts and create artist avatars, virtual environments, and interactive experiences. He said these virtual shows will help monetize performances for the artists, who can’t do live concerts during the pandemic.
Los Angeles based Wave has recently announced partnerships with Warner Music Group, Roc Nation, alongside several music labels, and management companies, who are in the works to add to Wave's already impressive roster of talent.
Legend is one of many artists to take part in the “One Wave” virtual concert series. Previous acts include Tinashe, Galantis and more.
The concert begins at 3:00 PM PT / 6:00 PM ET, and you can watch below or head to wave.watch/JohnLegend for more details.
