NEW YORK, NY – JANUARY 10: The Chilean feminist group known as Las Tesis organized a dancing flash mob on a sidewalk outside a Manhattan court on Friday (Jan 10) to protest Harvey Weinstein.
One hundred women flooded the sidewalk outside the 4th day of Harvey Weinstein's jury selection, chanting the Chilean anti-rape protest anthem “Un Violador en Tu Camino” — “The Rapist in Your Path” — outside the Manhattan courthouse. The women were fiercely dressed in black and red and performed a 15 minute flash mob protest during Weinstein’s sexual assault trial.
“The rapist is you,” they said, beating pots and pans. “Patriarchy is our judge, given to us at birth, our punishment is the violence you see.”
Over 108 potential jurors were seated in the courtroom during the demonstration. Weinstein’s defense lawyer, Damon Cheronis asked the judge to dismiss all the jurors who’d seen the protest.
Weinstein is charged with two counts of predatory sexual assault, two counts of rape and one count of criminal sex act stemming from the allegations of three women in New York City. Weinstein, a movie producer whose alleged sexual misconduct helped spark the #MeToo movement, has plead not guilty to all allegations of nonconsensual sex and rape with additional charges in Los Angeles. Weinstein could face life in prison if found guilty.
