'The Last of Us' follows a smuggler named Joel and a young girl named Ellie as they journey to escape zombies in a post-apocalyptic environment to survive. The HBO series is set to adapt part one of the first game for the show with a possibility of extending the series based on content from The Last of Us Part II which takes place five years after the original game setting.

HBO’s Craig Mazin will lead the adaption with Evan Wells, president of Naughty Dog, to serve as an executive producer along with HBO's Carolyn Strauss.
