By The Big Magazine

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, celebrated her 40th birthday by creating a video announcement for a new mentorship program known as “40X40,” with comedian Melissa McCarthy on Wednesday morning.

The video was uploaded to the Archewell website

The goal of the program is to encourage women over 40 to “regain confidence and rebuild their economic strength” when re-entering the workforce.

“Because I’m turning 40, I’m asking 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of their time to help mentor a woman who is mobilizing back into the workforce,” Meghan said. “And I think if we all do it, and all commit 40 minutes to some act of service, we can create a ripple effect.”

“Over 2 million women in the U.S. alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid, and I think if we all do it and all commit 40 minutes to some sort of act of service we can create a ripple effect,” Meghan says in the video.

The Duchess of Sussex, used her celeb power to call on activists, athletes and celebrities from around the world to spend offer 40 minutes to help women who are going back to the workforce after having lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Singer Adele, Stella McCartney, Chef José Andrés, Deepak Chopra, professor Dr. Ibram X. Kendi and feminist activist Gloria Steinem are just a few of the names that have joined the movement.
