Google’s annual developer conference, Google I/O was held near the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. The focus this year was all about AI tools such as the Universal Translator, "Help me write," and a few hardware announcements, too. It’s the first time in four years the company has held a large in-person event.
CEO Sundar Pichai opened the event by saying the company is “reimagining all of our core products, including search” with a bold and responsible approach.
Universal Translator has the remarkable ability to seamlessly convert video content into more than 300 hundred languages, all while synchronizing the speaker's lipsto match the translated words with the power of AI.
Gmail is getting a new AI feature called “Help Me Write.” This can use the context of a previous email to help you generate a new email. Instead of autocompleting just one sentence, this tool writes the entire email from start to finish in seconds. The feature will allow you to select from a wide variety of writing styles through prompts such as ‘formalize’, ‘elaborate’, and ‘shorten’.
The Help me write feature was launched to "trusted testers" in March, is among the generative AI functions that Google is using to update its existing tools in the Workspace suite
Google Workspace has integrated generative AI into its suite of products, with some features already disclosed. Such as using AI to create complete spreadsheet templates in Google Sheets and automatically filling in data.
Google Slides also features auto-generated AI art that corresponds to the content on each slide. A new feature called Duet AI for Workspace is also on the horizon, which will assist with contextual collaboration in Documents, Sheets, and other applications using AI.
Google Maps new feature, Immersive View for routes, is now available in 15 cities, such as London, New York, Tokyo, and San Francisco. This feature enables users to view their entire trip in advance, providing a comprehensive and immersive experience.
