Directed by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, “Ladies & Gentlemen … 50 Years of ‘S.N.L.’ Music” showcases clips from world-famous artists to up-and-coming artists who were soon to be stars on the Studio 8H stage. It premieres on January 27 on NBC.
The program highlights the show's musical legacy in honor of its 50th anniversary this year, features over 50 interviews and performance clips by artists such as, Mick Jagger, Sinéad O'Connor, Nirvana, Bad Bunny, and Kanye West.
The special will also include members of SNL's creative team from over the years, such as Lorne Michaels, Fred Armisen, Conan O’Brien, Eli Brueggemann, Jane Curtin, Jimmy Fallon, Al Franken, Josiah Gluck, Bill Hader, Steve Higgins, Marci Klein, Melanie Malone, Tom Malone, Mary Ellen Matthews, Eddie Murphy, Ego Nwodim, Liz Patrick, Leon Pendarvis, Lenny Pickett, Joe Piscopo, Andy Samberg, Brian Siedlecki, Akiva Schaffer, Paul Shaffer, Sarah Sherman, Howard Shore, Robert Smigel, Jorma Taccone, Kenan Thompson, Maya Rudolph, Hal Willner, and Bowen Yang.
For 50 seasons, NBC's Saturday Night Live has been the leading platform for live music performances on television, consistently redefining the connection between music and comedy. Ladies & Gentlemen … 50 Years of SNL Music will unveil the untold stories behind the culture-shaping, innovative, and headline-making musical performances, sketches, and appearances of the last 50 years. During the three-hour special broadcast, viewers will hear from many individuals who have influenced SNL's legacy.
NBC's Saturday Night Live began its 50th Anniversary festivities last week with the release of a four-part docuseries, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, on Peacock, followed by the larger primetime event scheduled for February 16th.
"The process of going back through the incredible archival footage was like being in a time machine, DeLorean or other. I'm so happy I went on the trip and now get to share it with everyone" Questlove shared in a statement when details on the special were release.
Lorne Michaels, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, Zarah Zohlman, Erin David, Dave Sirulnick, Jon Kamen, Meredith Bennett, Alexander H. Browne, Shawn Gee, and Tariq Trotter serve as executive producers – with Oz Rodriguez serving as a producer. The special is produced by Two One Five Entertainment.
