Baby Bloom isn’t the only one in the family playing with new toys. Orlando Bloom was spotted on a new hydrofoil surfboard in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Sunday (September 20).
The 43-year-old actor wore a bucket hat and a white long sleeve rash guard for his water adventure. The watercraft is essentially a battery-powered surfboard that has a hydrofoil wing and propeller suspended beneath it and runs on lithium battery technology.
The removable battery pack powers the motor and shrouded propeller that sit just above the hydrofoil wing. The battery powered surfboard can reach speeds from 25 to 45 miles per hour. At slower speeds the hydrofoil board floats along the water's surface, but as the hydrofoil boards gains speed and power the hydrofoil pushes the board, and the rider, above water.
Speed is determined by using a wireless hand controller along with other safety features designed to protect the rider. Weight and size of the user affects its battery life. Hydrofoil surfboards have gained popularity since the Covid-19 pandemic started among watersport enthusiast that can afford the expensive craft. Hydrofoil boards aren't cheap. Most boards cost an upwards of $2k to start and commonly referred to as “Foilboards.”
The global Hydrofoil Surfboards market is anticipated to rise at a considerable rate during the forecast period, between 2020 and 2025, according to a Daily Chronicle report.
