Google has been named the official search AI partner of Team USA, marking the first time a tech company has partnered with the sports nonprofit, said in a joint statement.
According to the tech company, Google, artificial intelligence will be integrated into the U.S. coverage of the Paris Olympics. This will enable sports commentators to utilize AI in providing explanations for the competitions. The announcement was made on Thursday in collaboration with NBCUniversal and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
Comedian Leslie Jones will be using Google's Gemini AI model to familiarize herself with new sports and engage viewers while serving as a commentator in Paris.
As NBCUniversal, the broadcaster of the Games in the U.S., updates its coverage, the announcement aims to appeal to viewers who do not watch live TV and younger audiences who are used to watching online clips.
The launch of personalized AI-generated daily recaps of the competition was confirmed. These recaps will be narrated by AI versions of individuals like sports commentator Al Michaels.
Throughout the day and during the main broadcast hours of the Olympics, NBCUniversal's hosts will rely on Google Search's AI summaries to address inquiries regarding certain sports.
The opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics is next July 26th.
