Sony has finally revealed the Playstation 5 along with specs, but the gaming giant has been tight-lipped on how much it will cost. The Big Magazine has gathered up everything we know about the PS5 (so far) and addressing the latest leaks and rumours surrounding the official launch of the Playstation 5.
Amazon (France) has leaked the Playstation 5 release date as November 20th, while Sony is sticking to its previous ambiguous release timeline of “holidays 2020.” The company first previewed the PS5 tower in North America at the “CES” show (back in January). The console has a futuristic two-tone design in all white with black trim.
Historically Sony has launched new consoles on the third Friday in November, which falls on November 20 of this year. The widely predicted release date coincides with PS3 and PS4 campaigns. Sony has not denied or commented on the price or drop date prediction. Fans are expecting to place pre-orders by Thanksgiving.
The PS5 tower features a thin horizontal configuration and will be available in a standard PS5 edition and a digital PS5 version which ditches the traditional disc drive. The backside of the console is exposed with a large cooling vent. The front of the console features one USB-C port, one USB-A port, and the unit’s power button.
The spec hardware of the PS5 will deliver content in high resolution, up to 8K. The Playstation 5 outperforms its predecessors with AMD Zen 2 CPU and AMD’s RDNA 2-based GPU, coupled with 16GB of RAM and an 825GB SSD. There’s also a separate HD camera accessory and matching Pulse 3D headphones, which feature that 3D Sony audio.
The Twitter account @IronManPS5 has posted plenty of PS5 predictions and leaks from insider information in the past few months.
Here are a series of tweets about pricing and availability. Unfortunately, none of these mentioned “leaks” can be verified.
While Sony hasn't officially released pricing, we can expect the PS5 price tag to come in or around $499.99, falling in line with past console pricing.
IronManPS5 also dropped announcements on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales with a global launch of November 20, 2020 at a recommended retail price (RRP) of US$39.99 for the PS5.
Plenty more details to come ahead of the system’s launch and pre-order dates for the 2020 holiday season.
