Quarantine Hack: Netflix Party Chrome Extension Lets You Watch With Friends and Family Remotely

Netflix has launched the Netflix Party Google Chrome extension to help folks stay connected with friends and family while social distancing or staying at home during “shelter in place” orders amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

With movie theaters closed and pro sports teams canceled, audiences are looking to streaming channels for entertainment. Netflix has users covered with “Netflix Party,” a free Chrome extension that allows you to watch and chat with your favorite movies and tv shows with your friends while in separate locations.

Here is how to get your Netflix Watch Party started:

Go to NetflixParty.com and click “Get Netflix Party for Chrome.”

You will be directed to Chrome’s Web Store - click “Add to Chrome” which will prompt you to “Add Extension.”

You should see the “NP” icon appear on the upper right-hand side of your screen.

Choose the movie or series you want to see, then click on the “NP” icon.

Click “Copy URL” and then send the link to whoever you’d like to join - the invitee must also have a Netflix subscription.

The app features virtual ‘hangouts’ where multiple users can engage with friends in real time while watching movies and shows. Netflix Party is only available on Chrome browsers on desktop or laptop computers.
