Steve Guttenberg Helps Local Pacific Palisades Residents Escape Palisades Brush Fire Evacuation

By The Big Magazine Staff

Local residents fleeing from fast-moving Pacific Palisades Brush fire; entire community evacuated.

Actor Steve Guttenberg, known for his hit comedies such as Police Academy and Three Men and a Baby, was seen on KTLA 5 helping residents move cars out of the street amid the Palisades Brush Fire. Residents are instructed to "evacuate now" because of a fast-moving wildfire in the Pacific Palisades region of Los Angeles.

The Palisades Fire was first reported around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of North Piedra Morada Drive. It had exploded to more than 200+ acres as of noon, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson.

"Everyone has got a band together now, get your personal property and get out" said Guttenberg.

Pacific Palisades is situated approximately 10 miles from Malibu. Numerous condos and apartments are at risk due to limited exit roads, resulting in traffic congestion as fire engines attempt to enter. Panic-stricken local residents are leaving cars without keys, exacerbating the gridlock. The Getty Villa lies in the fire's path as it moves west toward Malibu.

It was not immediately known if any homes had been destroyed as of 12:30 p.m. David Ortiz of the LAFD stated that over 100 firefighters and pre-positioned strike teams were combating the fire. The firefighters are facing fierce Santa Ana winds at a speed of 50 mph or more with horizontal winds. The winds have not peaked yet and due to pick up later today and reside by tomorrow afternoon.

The evacuation order area is the entire Pacific Palisades area and the area of Malibu east of Los Flores. Residents in the affected zone are urged to leave immediately for their safety using PCH to the south and taking Sunset and Palisades Drive.

The Westwood Recreation Center, located at 1350 S. Sepulveda Blvd., has been designated as an evacuation center. The center is equipped to accept small animals.

At noon, the City of Malibu shared an update on social media: “The southbound Pacific Coast Highway is closed at Topanga Canyon Blvd due to the brush fire response in Pacific Palisades. Extremely dangerous fire weather and high winds persist. Please exercise caution on the roads and be alert for emergency personnel. Prepare for possible evacuations.” The city is keeping an eye on the Palisades fire and notes that “SCE is turning off power to the Cuthbert, Galahad, and Cuthbert circuits in Malibu because of hazardous fire weather. Additional circuits may also be affected.”
