A new VR fitness app called Supernatural is quickly gaining popularity for its fast, fun workouts that take you to exotic locations.
Instead of a bike, treadmill or crowded workout class, you use a $300 VR headset called Meta Quest (formerlly Oculus), made by the parent company of Facebook. CEO Chris Milk (also a former music video director) struck a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group to add thousands of hit songs to listen to while you workout.
Supernatural launched in April 2020 by the AR and VR company Within. (Meta, formerly known as Facebook, purchased Within in late October, though The Information reported last week that the Federal Trade Commission has opened a probe into the $400 million–plus acquisition.)
The company launched a celebrity series in Janurary with actress, and comedian Tiffany Haddish as a guest coach. Haddish's workouts lead users in four virtual workouts — boxing, cardio, full-body stretching and meditation — with desitnations filmed in Spain, Portugal, the Maldives, China, Bolivia and Mongolia.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Haddish worked with Supernatural’s choreographers, coaches and content team to develop the series and paired exclusive soundtracks for each workout.
Subscriptions to Supernatural cost $18.99 a month, or $179 a year. Watch the teaser below.
