Legendary, autere game designer Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, is in the final stages of releasing possibly his most awaited game of all time: Death Stranding. We credit the anticipation surrounding this game to the six minutes of gameplay footage and the over nine minutes of cinematic trailers released by the Kojima team, which have raised more questions than answers.
The plot centers on Sam, played by The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, who works for a Corpse Disposal Team soon. Sam and his team get hunted by ghost-like creatures that respond to sound. Although, there has been much speculation and debate as to the actual plot, and Kojima himself even admitted that many people on his team had a difficult time digesting the intricacies of it. Yet, it is this complexity that contributes so much to the allure of the game. At the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival in New York Kojima said that Death Stranding is an “open world action game, but stressed the importance of “connection” and “reconnection.”
Besides Reedus, the game features many famous faces including, Guillermo del Toro, Margaret Qualley, Lea Seydoux, and Mads Mikkelsen. Sorry, Xbox owners; this game is only for PS4. Death Stranding will be available November 8th courtesy of Kojima Productions and Sony Entertainment.
New and old converge with the launch of Activision and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare. With the same name as the classic series, the developers stressed that this game will not be a remake, but a re-imagination of the modern warfare franchise. Activision and Infinity Ward claimed that the story mode will be, “raw, gritty, and provocative,” with an emphasis on capturing a realistic portrayal of modern day combat. This element is probably the biggest way that this game will differ from the original because 12 years have passed, and military technology has evolved substantially since then.
But don’t worry, Modern Warfare will deliver with tons of classic elements that Call of Duty fans know and love, including the return of Captain Price, the iconic main character of the original Modern Warfare series. To the disappointment of some fans Call of Duty Modern Warfare will not feature a battle royale game mode, but they did this so that the developers could spend more time refining the campaign and multi-player modes. This game will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC October 25th.
EA and Disney have collaborated with famed game developer, Respawn, to bring franchise fans the eagerly awaited Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. A beautiful cinematic trailer accompanied a small taste of gameplay during last year’s E3 Video Game conference in Chicago.
These teasers have amassed tons of excitement and left fans on the edge of their seats. The story takes place in between the movies, episode 3; Revenge of The Sith, and episode 4 A new Hope, centering on a young Jedi named Cal. Cal, played by actor Cameron Monaghan famous for his roles in Shameless and Gotham, is a young Jedi who survived the mass killing of the Jedi addressed by order 66 at the end of Revenge of The Sith. This will be EA’s first release since Battlefront 2 and the video game company has left behind the multiplayer-focused style in favor of a game with a strong story at its core. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC November 15th.
The eighth generation of Pokemon games is arriving this November with the duo, Pokemon Sword and Shield. There is massive intrigue and high expectations for this release because Sword and Shield will serve as the next generation of Pokemon games for the Nintendo Switch console. The Nintendo Switch came out in March of 2017 and is revolutionary in how they can use it either in a stationary or a portable mode. It can be played by two people at once. Pokemon Let’s Go: Pikachu and Eevee released on the Switch but these games were essentially just remastered versions of the original Pokemon Blue and Red and are not considered next gen games.
Sword and Shield take place in the Galar region and include three new options for starter Pokemon. The game contains an online component, where players with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription can play and battle against other players across the globe. This, paired with the new feature called Gigantax Mode, where the pokemon blow up to a massive size and receive new special abilities during battles in huge arenas, make it seem like these games will live up to the hype. Pokemon: Sword and Shield will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on November 15th.
The Outer Worlds
From Obsidian Entertainment, the same company that created Fallout: New Vegas, comes the highly anticipated RPG The Outer Worlds. Lead developers Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain are teaming up for the first time since the 90’s to bring this fresh and unique Sci fi game to life. The story centers on a character who wakes up from a 70 year cryosleep, and is presented with a decision that will alter the course of the story. Players will have a massive amount of freedom in customizing their characters, including choosing six different main skills that will influence the strengths, weaknesses, and overall characteristics of their avatar. The setting is a duo of picturesque and colorful planets on the edge of the galaxy that contain a plethora of alien life and the Halcyon Colony. The Outer Worlds is not necessarily an open world RPG, gamers will not have the ability to freely roam around the planets, but will instead explore them one section at a time.
Players will have freedom in the pace at which to explore the planets, however, based on which missions and side quests they choose to embark upon. Another exciting component is that they can complete quests in a multitude of ways. Whether by fighting, sneaking, or talking, players can choose how they wish to complete the mission, and many missions have multiple steps requiring different angles and strategies giving the gameplay deeper layers and creating a more engaging experience. The Outer Worlds released on October 25th. The game is available on PC in the Epic Games Store only for one year
