Moore plays aging celebrity Elizabeth Sparkle who has just been fired from a TV show by her crude boss (Dennis Quaid) who tells her women over 50 are disposable. She decides to use a black market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.
“The Substance” debuted and received acclaim at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, earning an enthusiastic 11-minute standing ovation.
