Warner Bros released the official first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's, “Trap” starring Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills and Allison Pill. The upcoming film will feature Hartnett as “The Butcher” a serial killer who ends up in a trap at a pop star’s concert.
Written and directed by Shyamalan, the “Trap” trailer shows Hartnett’s character bringing his daughter, Jody (played by Donoghue), to a concert to see pop star Lady Raven (portrayed by Saleka, Shyamalan’s real life daughter and R&B singer). The trailer shifts to Hartnett, who excuses himself to use the restroom. While heading to the bathroom, he encounters an arena security guard who informs him that federal agents are searching for a serial killer known as “The Butcher,” named for the way he “goes around just chopping people up.”
It closes out with Hartnett shown checking his phone and seeing a hostage on a home camera, making you suspect he is “The Butcher!”
Shyamalan joins the many Hollywood celeb parents that use their own projects / films as an opportunity to promote their "nepo babies" in the spotlight while it's hot. As a part of "Trap" film marketing strategy, Warner Bros also released the original song “Release” by Saleka Shyamalan as Lady Raven, at www.ladyravenmusic.com the same day as the trailer.
The film is also produced by Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock and M. Night Shyamalan. The executive producer is Steven Schneider.
Trap is slated to hit theaters August 9th!
